Relax and Enjoy the Beautiful Views from Fort Shirley!

点评：We visited Fort Shirley which is a part of Cabrits National Park. There are many beautiful views of Prince Rupert Bay. It cost us $8 US per person for the entrance fee to the National Park. Many of the buildings in the fort have recently been updated. They are nicely done. However, we found that some of the signs explaining the history of the fort were very old and not readable. Hopefully, the signs will be updated soon. We were told by a staff member that weddings and other events are now held here. There is a large hall and bar and sleeping quarters, too, in one of the buildings. There were many trails that were notated with signs. We walked on several of the trails to the ruins and took a look at the remnants. It was very warm when we were at the park. I would definitely recommend bringing sunscreen and dressing appropriately. It was cooler when we walked in the woods on the trails. We split a red snapper plate for lunch while we were there. It took a while for it to be prepared, but it was worth the wait! It was very good and reasonably priced. We were also able to purchase drinks. It was pretty busy when we were here as there was a ship docked at the pier near the fort. There is also a gift shop available. There seemed to be many employees sitting at the picnic tables while we were at the park. No guided tours of the park were offered to us. We took a local bus from Calibishie to Portsmouth. We walked from the bus stop through Portsmouth to get to Fort Shirley. It was a pretty warm walk, but we enjoyed it. We saw some goats on our walk, too. On our walk back to Portsmouth we stopped at Purple Turtle Beach. There are some places to eat and drink there as well as local people selling things. We had a relaxing time at Fort Shirley and would recommend checking it out if you have the opportunity!
