点评：there are 2 levels of panorama for tuzbair salt flat
- upper panorama / western chink of ustyurt plateau
- lower panorama / chalk arch
UPPER PANORAMA
most self drivers usually only visit here to look down at the salt flats . this is the easier route.
LOWER PANORAMA
the drive to the lower panorama is longer, more complicated and more confusing . the vehicle route is also not yet fully depicted on OSM.
it is easier to enter/exit lower panorama is from the west side (meaning, nearer to aktau).
- turn off from the highway at 44.14705,52.94501
- drive 1.5 hour towards chalk arch 44.03977,53.19544
coming from the west turn off, the drive itself isnt difficult. the offroad is hard-packed gravel / salt with really no chance of being stuck. you are also still quite far away from the salt flat section (with water) . any SUV vehicle with ground clearance can make it. 4x4 not necessary when weather conditions are dry.
the difficult part about the drive is you do need to have a very good sense of direction. you likely will be doing a bunch of trial-and-errors as there are so many meandering tracks, before you can find the right one to arrive to the destination (chalk arch). so i suggest allocating at least 3-4 hours as a first-timer to make this drive.
dont try to enter/exit lower panorama from the east side (meaning, nearer to upper panorama) even if possible. from what i understand, this may require you to do a sharp descend and traverse water-logged area on salt flat. you absolutely do not want to be stuck in salt flat.
