Unique, cliff dwellings, and desertly beautiful park!
Mesa Verde National Park的点评
点评:My sister and I went on a road trip to Western Colorado in Northern New Mexico in July. Very hot in those areas, but we started out with a Faithful Workouts retreat in Evergreen, CO so that’s why we went then. Mesa Verde national Park is huge! You’ll be driving a lot, but the scenery is amazing. There is a wonderful visitor center that you must stop at first, and they have water and bathrooms. Speak to the Rangers to plan out what you’re gonna do. Once you get the map of the place, you can decide how you want to proceed. We went on the scenic Drive and headed straight to the far View area where we turned right onto the Wetherill Mesa Road and did the Nordenskiold hike, so we could beat the heat later in the day. This hike gave us a real good idea of the scenery and lay of the land, including flora that burned from the big fire a few years ago. We also saw some cliff dwellings across canyons. In fact, there are signs all along the roads in the park that show where a fire was in the year which we thought was interesting to know. Be prepared for hilly and curvy roads on the drive in places. After we did this hike, we proceeded to drive around that Mesa and stop at places. Then we drove back to the Far View area and took a right and went to the Chapin Mesa area. This is where the Mesa Verde museum is, which is very interesting and we were supposed to get to do the Cliff Palace tour, but on that particular day we had booked tickets, it was closed due to rabid bats. So we spent more time stopping at the different places in that Mesa area. Of note if you drive to and stop at the Sun temple overlook, you will have a great shot across the canyon of the Cliff Palace. On this Mesa loop, there are examples of pit houses that you actually go into and read about. Then we drove back to the Far View area and took a right and proceeded on to drive and stop at the different overlook points on the main drag before getting back to the visitor center. This took us all day. It’s so worth it, so interesting, and so desertly beautiful.
