点评:This was the first time myself and my wife have visited Memphis and we had to see the famous Beale Street. When we did, we were a tad disappointed but the experience as a whole was good and is a ‘must see’ spot in Memphis. Most places have cover charges for the bands playing, as well as the tip system for the band, so you’re generally paying twice to listen to the bands. Sadly B.B Kings is one of them. This also generally has a queue to get in.
The street itself was smaller than I expected and only encompasses around 2 blocks of bars and restaurants. Most of them are the same with the exception of a few. We first ate at Jerry Lawler’s restaurant for a quick bite and was genuinely surprised that the food was better than expected and the band playing were really good. We then went to a bar across the street, which was called Blues City Cafe, which was one of the bars that didn’t have a cover charge. There are two parts to this premise, the restaurant at the front and the bar at the back. We spent a good amount of time in this bar as the band playing was really good and we enjoyed the atmosphere so much we returned for a second night. Keith the barman is funny and helpful. The band on the second night were really good as well.
On Friday’s and Saturday’s, the street is closed off in the evening and has security at all points that searches you and you have to pay a charge to enter the street. It was $5 each when we went. The only issue with the Blues City Cafe comes on these two days, as we found out the hard way. We were on Beale Street throughout the afternoon (so when it was free) and when we went into the Blues City Cafe, we were told we had to exit out through the restaurant. When we did this, we were unable to get back onto the street without paying and we couldn’t go back through the bar either. We weren’t happy with this.
