南端角和绿沙海滩的点评
点评：Stunning beach which is a must see if you have enough time in the Big Island. The Green Sands beach is about 90 minutes’ drive from Kona. Once you get there, you are right by the ocean but not quite on the green sands beach. To get there you must either trek 2.5 miles one way or hitch a ride on one of the trucks which costs about 25$ per person round trip. The truck will only wait about one hour for you while you enjoy the beach. If the weather is hot and sultry like in summer, the truck is not a bad option but if the weather is like what it was when we visited in December 2025, the trek is better. The sun bears down on you when you walk so be mindful about being clothed appropriately and using sunscreen. The winds are amazing. Most of the trees in the vicinity are bent northwards due to the force of the winds. You will need to be prepared to get all dusty especially if you do the trek. The trek itself is not difficult, but the ground is uneven and rocky. You also need plenty of time to visit this beach – around 5-6 hours including the drive time from Kona. One needs to climb down some rickety stairs and some sandy sheets of rock to get to the beach and that can be challenging for people with some physical limitations.
The beach itself is more like Olive green. It comes from the mineral olivine found in the basalt of certain lava flows. The lava here is from Pu’u o Mahana. It’s a small stretch but the location is very picturesque. At the beach the waves are quite strong and the wind makes the sand fly around too. It just adds to the aura of the beach. But all the effort is worth it as its one of four notable green beaches across the world (Talofofo beach in Guam, Punta Cormorant in the Galapagos and Hornindalsvatnet in Norway)
