点评：A huge contrast between the natural beauty of the area and the nightmarish battle that took place here. Huge number of casualties in such a small amount of space.
This is one of the two battles Lee fought in the North. While this battle wasn’t a decisive Union victory, it certainly wasn’t a Confederate victory. After the Union beat the Confederates in a tactical victory, Lincoln was able to issue the emancipation proclamation. This battle also allowed Lincoln to finally dismiss the incompetent McClelland.
Auto tour is well marked and consists of ten stops. Download the NPS app, go to Antietam, then download the auto tour under “self guided tours.” $20 admission per vehicle, which you pay at the visitors center.
Only disappointment was the visitors center. Small museum has removed all the artifacts because of flooding. Movie in theater was one of the worst National Park service battlefield
Movies I have seen. Movie doesn’t even talk about how the union had Lee’s battle plans. Then, doesn’t talk about how McClelland let Lee escape after the battle and wasn’t aggressive enough after breakthroughs during the battle.
To fully see everything, takes about 4 hours. This would include the visitors center, going on the auto tour, and doing some short walks at the sunken road, observation tower, and Burnside’s bridge.
