点评:The myth of the noble savage is alive and well in our national park service. The facts are that, as was typical of Native American tribes, the Cayuse practiced slavery and brutally subjugated their women rather than being ethereal and spiritual stewards of the earth
Yet here the Cayuse are presented more as magical elves than actual human beings. The narrative being promoted attempts to justify the murder of the Whitmans by claiming the Cayuse had their own reality, whereby Dr Whitman had summoned evil spirits to give them the measles. Imagine if we used this same logic to justify the puritans burning women as witches simply because they really believed them to be witches or justifying pogroms against Jews during the bubonic plague because of a sincere belief that they were poisoning the wells! In an attempt to counteract one false narrative the wokesters have merely substituted an equally false mirror image of that which they claim to detest.
That being said, it is a lovely and peaceful place. Just ignore the woke propaganda and meditate on the real history of flawed and yet worthy human beings who now rest in peace.
