点评:Excellent presentation of the life and accomplishments of President Lyndon B Johnson. The library was a reminder that LBJ may have been one of the most underrated presidents in history. His presidency was clouded by the assassination of JFK and the Viet Nam War, but so much transformative legislation was passed and some of the most critical domestic programs were started during his years in office to create a "Great Society". This included the transformative Civil Rights Act and The Voting Rights Act. Medicare and Medicaid were created. The Head Start Program was begun. The Immigration and Nationality Act was signed. The Department of Housing and Urban Development was created. The National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act was signed. There was also the establishment of the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting which led to the creation of National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). A minimum of 90 minutes is needed to appreciate all that is on display inside the museum, but you could easily spend several hours inside. If you appreciate history, it is well worth visiting when in Austin and is a great reminder of the important role our government plays in maintaining the quality of life we deserve to have in this country.
