The boardwalks make it easy to explore, but the loop is longer than it looks — definitely worth doing with rested legs. The scenery changes constantly: steam vents, bright pools, whistling fumaroles, and wide open views.
One of the highlights here is Steamboat Geyser, the tallest active geyser in the world. Even when it’s not erupting, standing beside it is strangely exciting and a little anxiety-inducing — you find yourself staring at it, waiting, hoping, wondering if today is “the day.” It’s unpredictable, impressive, and honestly one of the coolest stops in the park even when it’s quiet.
Norris is a memorable area with a lot to see, and it feels different from every other part of Yellowstone.
Traveler Tip: Visit earlier in the day if you can — the heat rises off the boardwalks fast, and the extra morning steam makes the colors pop.
