Deeply scratched and filthy gondola windows at Nevis Range reduce scenery to a blur

点评：The Nevis Range Gondola windows were so filthy and deeply scratched on all sides that the scenery was reduced to a blur. Not recent damage - the scratching was extensive and the grime (on the outside of the windows) was baked on. These windows haven't been *properly* cleaned in weeks, possibly longer. Yes, there is condensation on the inside of the glass - so we opened the little overhead hatches for ventilation and used a tissue to wipe the interior windows, but even clearing this had little benefit. Proper exterior cleaning would not be enough anyway - the plexiglass is so degraded and scratched that maintenance for the benefit of visitors is clearly not a priority for Nevis Range.
Yet this attraction has a captive audience - it is on every tour bus itinerary and recommended by Tourist Info - and Nevis Range management obviously knows it. So there is an guaranteed influx of visitors on the tourist circuit, dutifully queuing up to pay £27.50 for the 15 minute ride to the shoulder of Aonach Mòr. This has clearly made Nevis Range management complacent about maintenance and customer satisfaction.
We visited on a flawless winter day with crystal-clear visibility across the Highlands. The location is genuinely spectacular. The whole point of a gondola ride is the view. The lack of care to this ride speaks volumes - it shows management has become complacent, has little regard for visitors, and takes no pride in what once was clearly a fabulous attraction.
A complete plexiglass window replacement across the gondola fleet and proper cleaning equipment and training could likely be paid for by what they take in a week of ticket revenue.
So save your money! Continue to the Commando Memorial Car Park for a free view of Ben Nevis (albeit from ground level). Take the spectacular drive to Mallaig via a stop at Glenfinnan to see the viaduct and stunning Loch Shiel
