点评:I must say that after reading these reviews I had second thoughts about going to pay our respect at Wounded Knee. But I'm glad we went. Yes, we were approached by a lady in the parking lot. She got out of a car with three men in it and shyly asked if we would like to see her jewelry. We said yes, but asked if there was someone who could tell us more about the site. Her Uncle in the car agreed to be our guide, so they followed us up the hill. At no time did we feel threatened. It was an honor to listen to her Uncle share his knowledge of the site, and he shared some about his life. The lady was also very friendly and talkative. Yes, I bought her earrings because I liked them. Yes we OFFERED her Uncle a fee after our conversation for sharing his knowledge with us. He didn't ask for one. In the end, we met kind and gentle people and we were glad to learn more about them. The Monument site could be better taken care of, but remember this site is on one of the poorest reservations in the U.S. They dont have a lot of money to dedicate to upkeep. This site is worth visiting no matter how unkempt it may be.
