点评:We arrived for the first time here late one afternoon before the evening lighting ceremony at Mount Rushmore. We appreciate that staff encouraged us to get a re-admit pass for the next 7 days after our first visit , saving us a 2nd $30 admission fee for a vat of 2 people. The initial 1.5 hours we had definitely was not enough to see the entire memorial.
We returned 2 days after our first visit. In the meantime, we got on the phone and setup a Storytellrs tour. A $125 per person minimum donation to the 501 c 3 that is the Crazy Horse Memorial is required and they don’t necessarily do theses tours on the exact same schedule every day. There were tours planned every hour on the hour the Saturday we were there but for safety they pause tours when there’s lightning in the area so of course the schedule will change.
The Storyteller tour as of September 2026 takes you by van with an insightful and positive guide up to Crazy Horse’s face and pointing left arm. In a few months, this tour will likely look different as access to the mountain adjusts as progress continues.
Although not the cheapest option in the Black Hills, we found the required donation amounts for the Storytellers tour to be 100% worth it! If you can make that work without negatively impacting your budget/finances, we highly recommend it!
The Storytellers tour took us roughly an hour. We were glad we scheduled that early because we got to witness Star Chief Eagle and her little boy demonstrate hoop dancing. Specific live entertainment can vary by the day you visit.
The intro film at the Welcome Center is a must and is quite inspiring.
The cultural center is fascinating and gives helpful visuals with colors for the regions of Native American tribes celebrated there.
Outside part of the home where the 10 children of the founding sculpture family were raised, they have interesting dated historical photos to demonstrate the process. We also found that home, the sculptor’s studio and a heritage center with artists in residence interesting.
We had the Native American taco and Tatonka Stew between us for lunch at the restaurant there and found that tasty and the service warm and welcoming.
This is an inspiring stop. Follow your dreams!
