点评：My wife and I drove down the Shafer Trail on a sunny, pleasant day in April, 2026, in our Jeep Wrangler Rubicon in two-wheel drive. I did not engage the part-time, Rock-Trac 4WD. A high clearance vehicle is recommended and full-time, AWD might provide additional safety. Traffic was minimal. The posted speed limit is 15MPH but we never exceeded half the limit. Do not attempt this decent or ascent during inclement weather. The drive is challenging and not for the faint of heart. The road is very narrow in some sections and precipitously close to the cliff edge. There are no guardrails. Passing other vehicles is frightening. If you drive off the edge then you will die and join Thelma and Louise in the happy hunting grounds. I suggest preparing your Last Will and Testament before you attempt this route. If you survive the five miles of death-defying switchbacks then you will need to drive an additional thirty-two miles on Potash Road to Moab. Potash Road from the White Rim Road junction to the Potash Evaporation Ponds, a distance of about twenty miles, is a punishing, uneven rocky road and a jarring experience. Bring a cervical collar.
