Lovely remote campground but potentially cramped

点评：Camped at Dog Canyon campground. Worth the long trip just to get there. Beautiful view of the mountain ridge each morning. But camper beware if you're intending to stay put there be prepared to rub elbows with other campers there. For some reason TPWD found if necessary to consolidate most all of the sites into one small area. So you drive all this way to this remote campground only to be sardine canned together. However, we were fortunate that there were not too many people camping there at the time we were there, but that could have easily been different. Restrooms were clean and there was a utility sink/faucet on the backside of the restroom - helpful for clean-up.
I would recommend obtaining a wilderness camping permit to hike from Dog Canyon to a primitive site say along McKittrick Canyon Trail. Tho it's another 7.5 mi to the trailhead with a significant elevation change.
