点评:We spent a good part of the day driving from San Diego and back in order to visit this park. Our two main activities were the Slot Canyon Trail and Fonts overlook. Everyone in our family absolutely loved the Slot Canyon trail, and we were so glad we did it. Fonts overlook was pretty cool, but not what I would call a must do.
Given that we had the day available to spend, I would recommend visiting this park, especially the Slot Canyon trail. But if you are pressed for time and trying to squeeze in this activity, I’m not sure it’s worth it to drive two hours to the park and another two hours back to San Diego
If you do go to the Slot Canyon Trail, here are some notes: Head for Borrego Mountain Wash as your GPS destination; once you get to the turn off for Borrego Mountain Wash, it’s about a 2 mile drive on a sandy road to get to the trailhead; our GPS said that we had to park and walk those 2 miles, but that is not true - and there were plenty of sedans and vehicles driving along it without any problem at all (we had a Kia Sorrento, and it was just fine); once you arrive at the trailhead, there is a sandy parking lot, and you must put $10 cash into a slot to pay for parking; From there, you walk to the trailhead, where you immediately start on the Slot Canyon part of the trail. It is about a mile long, and it was really enjoyable. There were a couple of tricky parts, and you had to slide through some other parts, but it was lots of fun, particularly for the teenagers. We saw kids as young as eight doing the hike as well. Definitely not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. The major complaint is that once you get to the end of the slot canyon part, which is about a 1 mile distance, you are then faced with a decision of whether to turn around and go back the same way you came, or instead to walk up an incredibly steep hill and then along the ridge of the canyon for 1 mile to get back to the parking lot. We chose to go up the very steep hill, which was pretty difficult, and the 1 mile back to the parking lot along the ridge of the canyon was completely exposed to the sun. However, turning around and going back through the Slot Canyon wasn’t an option for us because a couple of folks in our group thought it would not have been possible to get up some of the drops that we had to do on the way down through the trail. All in all, it was a really fun activity, particularly for us since none of us had ever done a slot canyon trail before.
