点评:We attended a taping of the NPR program, "Wait, Wait, Don't Tell Me . . . " at the Studebaker Theater in the Fine Arts Building. The Theater has a small venue vibe, but seats about 700 people. The architecture of the building and the theater are gorgeous, displaying old-world craftsmanship that is no longer seen in today's structures. The intricate details of the carvings and inlays are a feast for the eyes.
There was a small concession stand set up during our visit. I do not know if it was part of the Theater or part of the NPR presentation, but the pricing was rather high. Our group purchased 3 waters (2 still, 1 sparkling), 2 candy bars, and 1 bag of chips. Even allowing for the fact that the 2 still waters came in reusable metal bottles, our meager purchases set us back $32 after leaving a small tip.
Two of the three members of our party used the restrooms during our visit. There are two single-stall, ADA-compliant restrooms on the same level as the theater, but the main restrooms are located in the basement of the building underneath the theater. Due to the limited restroom facilities on the main level, the wait to use them was rather long. This may be a challenge for visitors that cannot access the basement restrooms due to mobility limitations. The two members of our party that used the restrooms did go to the basement, and one person reported that the stairs were slightly steeper than most stairways being installed today.
The performance we attended was fantastic, although that is more a function of the presenting group than the theater itself. While our experience with this venue is limited, we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. We look forward to returning to experience some of the other activities that take place in the building, not just in the theater.
