Opened in 1968, this unique zoological park nestled over a hilly steps in Birch Hill area, has the honour of being the highest in location and houses endangered animals not found in most of the zoo. Species liike Red Panda, Siberian Tiger, Himalayan Wolf, Snow leopard, Gorals etc can be seen under natural habitats here. The entire area is shaded with tall birch and poplar trees.
We visited this park during our recent Darjeeling vidit and loved it. But one word of caution. If you have problem in climbing elevation or have knee problem, you may find it difficult. Details of the animals including there natural habitat, lifespan etc are nicely written and is very helpful for inquisitive visitors.
A must visit place in Darjeeling. This is not an ordinary zoo. This is a habitat of some rare and endangered species.
