点评:There are many temples in Pattaya, some are free some requires entrance fee, but If you’re looking to visit a temple in Pattaya that is both free and beautiful and perched on top of a hill overlooking the city then look no further.- Big Buddha Pattaya temple and viewpoint is the place to be!!! In Thai it is officially know as Wat Phra Yai, it is a a big and majestics 18-meter-tall golden Buddha statue perched atop Pratumnak Hill. Built in 1977, the temple is both a place of worship and a viewpoint tourist area. There are many ways to get to Pratumnak hill and if you have a car there is free parking space. To get access, there is a grand staircase flanked by golden, multi-headed Naga serpents. From here, you could already see the Luang Pho Yai or the Golden Buddha looking down on you. Aside from being a tourist attraction, this is also a place of worship so proper attire must adhere to. This is also my fave spot to take some photos because its was a lovely staircase starting with the Multiple heads of the Golden Naga on both sides following you with its Golden body all the way up to the top where the temple and Golden Buddha welcomes you. It wasn’t as high as we expected so it was a very relaxing and tranquil walk up high. As you reached the temple, the Golden Buddha is right at the center and you could see different Buddha statues and images alongside with it. On the left side of the Buddha, there are are many options you could use for offering and also make some mertis and donations. We took some Marigold flowers, candle and incense for our offerings to Golden Buddha. Standing at 18 m tall, I made my prayers and merits by removing our shoes right before his elevated platform. There are lots of tourists here but they did observe some silence yet during peak hours of early morning or sunset time where there will be more crowds as expected.
Behind the Golden Buddha is the viewpoint where you could see Pattaya and Jomtien Beach and the city of Pattaya. It is one of the many viewpoints in Pattaya but this is also one of the most beautiful and my favourtie. You could also see the Cable car ride and Pattaya Tower and its also the perfect placr to take your lovely photos and videos. Around this viewpoint is still part of the temple so you would still see many statues of Buddha in different forms as well as other Dieties and Venerated Monks. There are also benches around this part of its very windy and serene place to rest, enjoy the view and embrace this Holy place. As we made our way out, there are toilets, snacks and souvenir shops including a framed photo for you to keep for just 100 Baht!!
It is highly recommended to visit Wat Phra Yai when you’re in Pattaya - it is the best place to worship, relax, enjoy and view the most amazing beach, sea and city of Pattaya up from above in the holiest place of the Golden Buddha Luang Pho Yai!!!! See you soon Kapkunap!!! :=)
