点评:The Memorial stands in West Potomac River, between the Tidal Basin and Potomac River. It's within walking distance of the National Mall and Lincoln Center. The distance and walking time are roughly the same. The FDR is one of the more expansive memorial in the nation. Yet its shade trees, waterfalls, statuary, and quiet alcoves create the feeling of a secluded garden rather than an imposing structure. He was the only American President to serve four terms, it only stands to reason that his memorial should be reflect something extra.
The memorial's five outdoor rooms include a Prologue Room and one for each of FDR's terms in office. Water cascades and quiet pools are present throughout. Each room conveys in its own way the spirit of this great man. Every section is clearly marked by date, making it easy to identify the time period each room is dedicated to. Particularly touching is the exhibit illustrating the President's funeral procession on horse-drawn carriages. We mistakenly started our visit from the end and ended up at the beginning of the memorial, where there is a small and untidy souvenir shop.
