点评:This is going to be insanely long. So buckle in or scroll.
We went to the capitol today and yesterday and missed both tour times. Yesterday, our tour was at 3:20 and we went 40 minutes early, today our tour was 9:30 and we went an hour early.
Yeah. ONE hour and we still missed our tour time. By the time we went in it was an hour and 10 minutes and the couple in front of us had been waiting for an hour and a half. Yesterday, since it was the last tour time, we couldn't go. But today, since we had an early time, we got to go on the next one. So, now you're probably asking, "why the one star if you got to go on another tour?" Well, it's because I am angry with how all of this is handled by the capitol staff, police, and the insane wait times.
Yesterday, I was told they give a ten minute grace period, so by the time we got in at 3:30 ish I thought we still had time and nope. Missed it. I wish the people working outside would tell everyone that if you are there for a reservation, you are going to miss it and there isn't another one for that day. Because I'm telling you the line behind me at that point was crazy and I know they were all there for tours as when I went back out not even 20 minutes later, they were all gone.
Moving on, of course the security process is vital to entering the capitol, and that is not what I'm mad about. Safety is very important in a place like that. I'm mad about the efficiency and attitude of everyone who works on the first floor. Also, with how the whole thing is set up. You ALL stand in one big line (we later learned there are actually two but they're both long) and wait. It doesn't matter if your tour is 9:20 or 9:30. Heck, if your tour is 9:20, a 9:30 person could be ahead of you.
Does that make sense to any of you? Wouldn't you let people stand in line by tour reservation and then also add a walk in section for people who want to go to the gift shop or something? Doesn't that sound more efficient than everyone missing their tour? I'm sure the staff in the red shirts outside and at the podium once you get in might have a better attitude if they didn't have to deal with disgruntled people who stand in line for over an hour.
Yesterday, the check-in attendant at the podium said it's a very common thing for people to miss their tours because of the line and that's just how the people in charge run it. But why? Not only that but it's as though everyone has some sort of weird power trip and a smug demeanor. Like they don't give af that you're waiting that long because this is all free, but I'd PAY to not have to deal with that mess.
Anyway, the check in attendant today who was a younger boy was also kind of rude and very unapologetic. He asked us if we missed our tour, too, and we said that this was the second tour we missed and he said with a big smile, "Awesome!"...
What? I get that's probably some sarcastic remark, but when you stand in line for over an hour in the cold, getting a response like that is so angering. Of course he can't fix the way the line works, but you can at least be apologetic. Saying "I'm sorry you missed your tours. We hate that this happened but hope you can still enjoy your tour with us," can go a LOOOONGGG way instead of the smug attitude. It kind of ruins your time because not only do you miss reservations for other things that throws your whole day off and you stand in a crazy line, but the staff also don't have it in them to even act like they care. It leaves such a bad taste in your mouth.
Also, he said that we can complain to him instead of someone else and I straight up told him "why? you don't care anyway." Rude on my part as well but I'm sick of the nonchalant attitude from the workers who act like just because this tour is free money wise, that we don't pay by standing in the crazy line, driving or lyfting (which is what we did), and banking on this not ruining our reservation times for other things (which it did) Also, this comment was after he made his "awesome" comment so to me it was warranted.
Like, it's DC. We all have other things and reservations that are missed because of the stupid way they handle the line. Not only that but the police will let in a very small number of people at a time (where you wait 10 minutes in between) and that number changes every single time. Sometimes it's 5, 10, 2, 4, and one time it was 3 and it was two couples. One of them did not want to be split, rightfully so as the next time you can go in would be 10 minutes later when they call the next group, and the worker outside told them both to go in because she doesn't care. It makes it seem like they're just making it up as they go.
When you actually get into security they're just talking and lallygagging the whole time. No one can convince me that this process should take longer than TSA. Of course TSA can have off days, but most of the time even if there is a long line it moves pretty quick. This line does not. I don't know if at this point they need to start charging so it can move quicker or what but this is sooooo unacceptable.
Now are there some staffers who are kind? Yes, a lot of them! Crazily enough, it just seems to be the ones upstairs and working outside who seem like they hate their job or love watching people miss their tour.
So, no, if you have to wait even 30 minutes, it's just not worth it. It's a 13 minute presentation then a trip to a few rooms. Not worth it for the time you spend outside.
I also want to say I think it's insane I don't see any comments complaining about this online. Everyone around me was complaining and this is something that, as I mentioned earlier, just leaves a bad taste in your mouth.

没人能说服我,这流程应该比TSA(美国运输安全管理局)的安检时间还长。
