点评：We always try to visit any botanical gardens or arboreta whenever we visit an area. So of course we wanted to see Rip Van Winkle Gardens. For those planning a visit, throw away your expectations of what a garden should be. Rip Van Winkle is something else. It is the personal creation of fames 19th century actor Joseph Jefferson. As such, plant and animal selection is somewhat idiosyncratic. It is now owned and managed by Mike Richard. When you visit, you will find paths to wander, a dazzling array of plants, flowers, and trees, peacocks, and roseate spoonbills. We stayed two nights in Cook's Cottage, which is conveniently located for wandering and observing, and totally charming. They have a restaurant and gift shop on site, both of which are worth visiting. The menu for vegans is very limited so we "cheated" and had a slice each of bourbon pecan and key lime pie. Both were delicious. We were fortunate enough to encounter Mike on one of our walks and he regaled us with information and history and his enthusiasm for this wonderful place.
