点评:We were able to get tickets to “Riverdance” 2 PM show on Saturday, June 28th. The tickets were in the covered area of the Filene Center in Section P-REAR-O, Row DD. This review is mostly about Wolf Trap, the only National Park for the Performing Arts. The “Riverdance 30 – The New Generation” at Wolf Trap is an updated production of traditional Irish step dancing with the inclusion of hip-hop, flamenco, and Russian features. I prefer the traditional version of Riverdance. The video projections on the backdrop were quite impressive, and the sound quality is very good. The staff are helpful and friendly.
The park itself is well-maintained and is located next to a residential area. The wood construction of the amphitheater adds to the beauty of the facility. There is an outdoor amphitheater as well as lawn seating. Picnics are allowed either on the lawn or at the several picnic tables located in the park. Food and drink are available for purchase at food stands and a restaurant for members only. Food is on the pricey side. No food or drinks are allowed in the amphitheater. However, you may bring a drink into the amphitheater if it is in one of the Park’s cups. Soft drinks, beer and wine can be brought onto the grassy area as well as coolers. There are several restrooms located throughout the park.
Seating inside the amphitheater leaves a lot to be desired. Think Economy class on an airplane. People were squished close next to each other. Unfortunately, I sat next to a person who decided he could spread out by having his knee knock against me. Parking is free and there are designated lots for handicapped parking closer to the entrance of the building. Be prepared to walk up a hill from the parking lot. Wolf Trap offers courtesy golf cart shuttle service for those with accessibility needs. This service is offered two hours before the performance and continues until 15 minutes after the show begins and resume 30 minutes after the event. Seasoned concert attendees know that is important to arrive at least one hour early if you have lawn seats as the best seats with the best views of the stage are staked out early. Depending on where you are parked, it may take up to an hour in traffic to exit the venue so bring your patience with you.
The complex includes The Barns, The Filene Center (amphitheater), Children’s Theater-in-the Woods and a hiking trail over Wolf Trap Run. Filene Center shows are offered late May through mid-September, and the Theater-in-the-Wood performances are from late June until mid-August. The Barns offers indoor performances from October to May and hosts shows including bluegrass, chamber music, opera and comedy to name a few.
Highly recommend a visit to Wolf Trap, the National Park for the Performing Arts.
