A wonderful and memorable cemetery honoring those fallen in the Stone’s River battle
Stones River National Cemetery的点评
点评:Stone's River National Cemetery is a very moving and beautiful place located right on the Stone's River National Battlefield just northwest of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. It is the final resting place for over 6,000 Union soldiers who died during the Battle of Stones River and later conflicts. To be accurate, of 2025, there are 7,148 total interments. The cemetery is immaculate with perfectly manicured grass and rows of white headstones. There is a tall flagpole in the middle that flies a large American flag. It is right off the main road with only one entrance. There is parking as soon as you enter the grounds. A single road circles around the flagpole so you can drive slowly and take it all in. I really liked the signs that had sayings from a famous poem about the fallen soldiers. What makes it especially poignant is that the cemetery overlooks part of the actual battlefield. It really brings home the cost of the battle and the sacrifice of those who fought there. I really liked visiting Stone's River National Cemetery and paying my respects for the people who fought one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. It is a quiet, respectful, and significant place. I definitely recommend stopping here if you are visiting the battlefield.
