点评：This small, middle-of-nowhere national monument is not jam packed with tourists. That's a big advantage. I even had one trail to myself in the morning-Captain Jack's Stronghold Trail. It is also located next to a wildlife sanctuary. The main feature of the wildlife sanctuary is bird life. It's a flyover way station for birds. There were all kinds of different ones in the trees along the trail I was on. The national monument's claim to fame, is its large collection of lava tube caves. There is an easy one, with lighting and a paved walkway, and others require stooping, even crawling. They will rent headlamps to you and/or gear if you plan on exploring some of the harder ones, and you *must* check in at the visitors center for a cave pass if you plan on even seeing just the easy one, (which is what I did.) They don't want you to get lost or injured. None of the lava tubes is handicapped accessible. Even the easy one has a metal ladder to get to the cave floor.
But...even without entering a lava tube cave, the landscape is interesting, since it encompasses a large lava flow from the past.
