Grapevine Vintage Railroad的点评
点评：I took my 3 YO Grandson on this wonderful, vintage train to the Fort Worth Stockyards. He was beyond excited and was so involved with everything going on. This helped keep his attention so he didn’t get too bored since we had SO many stops along the way.
You see, this charming excursion is only damped by the fact the freight and commuter lines share some of the same track….and, they have right of way. This meant we would stop….and wait….and wait. What is normally a 35 - 45 minute drive to Fort Worth from Grapevine took almost 2 hours. This was NOT due to the speed of the train. Just a heads up, be ready to spend some time sitting.
The Vintage Railroad organization has tried to account for this by introducing a cute train robbery skit actors perform to attempt to offset and distract from the long waiting periods. Unfortunately, they weren’t timed well, the sound system was less than ideal (as you might imagine trying to outfit a vintage locomotive without detracting from it’s period appearance), and they performed most of it mid- to back of the car we were in. This meant you had to try to turn around to see and hear….while we were instructed to “remain seated at all times”.
Still, it’s worth the time and effort….and it was a fun activity.
My Grandson was so happy to be onboard, he did’t mind waiting. But, it did put us back in the original, departing station WAAAY later than we expected.
One last thing, the AC is either ON…or not. When it is, it’s extremely cold. Again, can’t expect a period locomotive to have modern climate control….especially taking into account when this train was originally constructed – the only climate control would have been a breeze through a window.
I still recommend you take the trip at least once. It takes you to another historic treasure, the Fort Worth Stockyards….and you don’t have to battle for a parking spot!
