Beautiful displays of ceramics, good documentation
Kyushu National Museum的点评
点评:I entered from the grounds of the Daizafu Tenmangu shrine. As others have said, the entrance from there is quite spectacular, up a long series of escalators. The glass exterior of the building is also impressive.
There is usually some kind of special exhibition in addition to the permanent exhibits; I only saw the permanent exhibition, which was quite reasonable in price (700 yen for entrance, or 1000 yen for a combination ticket with the shrine).
The exhibits were well-laid out, according to historical periods of the area. They showed the changes over time of the ceramics and other artifacts, and also the foreign influences on the artifacts. The museum overall has excellent English explanations, some describing the individual artifacts and some giving overall descriptions of the history of the area.
I actually found this museum to be far more interesting than the Tokyo National Museum in Ueno park. Perhaps it's because this is a more manageable size than the National Museum, but I found that the layout and flow of the museum here makes it easier to understand the significance of the artifacts.
Pictures can be taken in most galleries, except for galleries that have light-sensitive paintings or similar objects.
The adjacent Restaurant linoji has great takeaway soft ice cream, and there are picnic tables on the adjacent terrace for sitting and enjoying it.
This would make a nice one or two hour addition to a visit to the shrine. Note that the museum is closed on Mondays.
