点评:It's hard to look at this site and realise that it has been restored by volunteers from a derelict and abandoned site, its old machinery stripped of useful metals by thieves. We went on a Steam Day, and, arriving early, we watched the great engines come slowly to life. They aren't noisy, but they run with ponderous and relaxing rhythm. And they truly put the "live" into "Live Steam". You can think of cliches like 'going back in time'. and, yes, you do, but it's the combination of machine power and the tenacity and commitment of those who brought the place back from the brink that is so overwhelming. Even the cake portions in the little cafe (soon to be replaced by a new and larger facility, are on the grand scale (as well as delicious). The entry fee is very good value for money.. The only downside to be aware of is that access to the upper levels is by original spiral metal staircases, so those with mobility issues may be limited to the ground floor and the workshops. But they will still have an interesting visit.
