点评:Little Moreton Hall was built by the prosperous Cheshire landowner William Moreton 500 years ago with the purpose to impress. The upper floors look like concrete but are made with a mix of lime, ash and hair. They are fire retardant and strong, but light so sit on light timbers. Crooked walls and uneven floors but still standing surrounded by its moat. There are many interesting feature like the long drop toilet in to the moat, stained glass and carvings which look like stone but are actually 500 year old plaster.
Little Moreton Hall remained in the possession of the Moreton family for almost 450 years, until ownership was transferred to the National Trust in 1938. The gardens lay abandoned until their 20th-century re-creation. it was replanted according to a pattern published in the 17th century. There are paths and lawns to walk around the garden and to admire this unusual shaped house from different perspectives.
Dogs are not allowed except assistance dogs. The tree - shaded car park is a short walk from the house and easily assessed off the A34. Entrance is via a bridge over the moat.
For children there is spotter activity throughout the year. Mrs Dale's tea room in the house served traditional fare in a traditional parlour room. Reasonable prices, typical of NT, and tasty in an atmospheric historic room.
(Not so) Little Moreton Hall is a fun piece of history to visit with many feature worthy of photography and study.
