点评：Our second visit to the most Ethical elephant sanctuary in Thailand. A totally immersive experience for 5 days of our lives. From the Monday 9:00 am we are picked up from Uttaradit until Friday 15:00 when dropped off at sukhothai we were looked after by Katherine, Kruh Sing and their fantastic staff and mahouts. Forget about the outside world and follow the elephants. See them get their morning treatments to heal their sores and wounds from early life experiences. Then follow them into the jungle and watch the dynamics and relationships unfold when they cross paths naturally as they create paths through the undergrowth.
Around 12 noon you will hear the approaching truck with the staff who have made vegan thai dishes and serve up a brilliant picnic, possibly in a treehouse, but usually in the shade of some trees. Getting back to the lakeside “pavilion” around 3:30pm you then may go out to a remote area to cut banana trees or visit a local market to sample their wares or visit a local house to try learning some thai cooking. There is as well an optional walk to the highest local peak to watch the sunrise. Organised by locals it is well worth it.
Every pound, dollar, baht or whatever your currency is you spend on booking your 4 nights at this sanctuary is spent on keeping this sanctuary going and supporting the local village. I would rather my money do that than some 5 star hotel which will never thank you like this slice of Thailand will.
I forgot to mention the overnight accommodation which again is in the village and is called “my house”.
It is basic and comfortable but the staff are the loveliest people. Just be careful because they have a wicked sense of humour!!
