点评:The Expo 70s Commemorative Park is a huge park about 50 min away from the Osaka city centre (by metro/train), or 30 min by car/taxi. I took the Midosuji subway line up all the way to Senrichuo Station, and then changed for the Osaka Monorail to Bampakukinenkoen Station. The entire journey took ~50 min and cost ~700 yen for the metro and monorail. From what I gather, locals are more familiar with the name “Bampaku” rather than 70s Expo Park, so refer to it by the former if you need help with directions. It also costs 260 yen per adult to enter the park, which should be valid for the entire day, so do hold on to it if you wish to exit and re-enter. The ticket I paid for was for the gardens only, entry to other places (museum or pavilion) within the grounds will require extra costs.
I visited the park during autumn season, and the best autumn spots it seems are the Maple Valley and Waterfall areas, which is to the west of the sprawling park, or the Japanese Garden to the north of the park. At the Maple Valley area, I highly recommend going up the tree-top walk for the breathtaking view, and do not miss the waterfall! The waterfall isn’t very tall or grand by any means, but the surrounding autumn leaves are a magnificent sight. Definitely worth the walk (some steps and cobblestones) to reach it. The Japanese Garden also has its fair share of autumn leaves, but this time paired with a Japanese garden landscape (like teahouses). There are less steps involved here, so more friendly on the limbs for the elderly. I think what is fantastic about both sites, and the park in general, is that it’s so huge, and there wasn’t any crowd at all on the weekday. Plenty of school groups were here on tour, but there was just so much room to go around. Those two areas took up almost the entire day (at slow, enjoyable pace), so I did not see if there were other areas with autumn leaves. The concentration of leaves, in combination with the surrounding landscape, does really let the beauty of autumn shine through, and I highly recommend those two spots if you are short on time.
Do note that there are not much food options within the park grounds; you’d have to exit the park grounds and head to the nearby La-la Port Expocity. No worries though, just keep your ticket and to re-enter the park. The map (available in pdf on their website, or at the park entrance) does indicate plenty of cherry blossom viewing spots, so I would imagine the park would be fantastic during Hanami season.
