点评:This is a very accessible lookout point which does not require any bushwalking. From here you look across to the famous Three Sisters and down over the eye-waveringly sheer drop of 450 metres into the impressive Jamison Valley.
The lookout is located just below the Echo Point lookout, the main Blue Mountains viewing point where all the tourist buses head. A ramp on the left leads down to the lower level.
The view is not so very different. You are right on the edge of the escarpment so the views from both are absolutely panoramic but the lower level is perhaps a little less crowded and you have a slightly different angle.
When Queen Elizabeth stood here at this point in 1954, she was a young and very new Queen. Her coronation had taken place only the year before. Crowds of 75,000 lined the streets as the Royal procession made its way to Echo Point. Excitement was in the air. A competition for the best decorated home and garden along the royal route was held, schools were closed, children lined the street with flags and a bouquet of Blue Mountains wildflowers was presented to the Queen.
A small, bronze plaque which marks the visit. It reads: 'Queen Elizabeth Lookout / Her most Gracious Majesty viewed the Jamison Valley from this lookout during her visit on 12th February 1954’.
From Echo Point, it is easy to start any one of several bushwalking trails, including the Prince Henry Cliffside Walk, the Three Sisters Walk and the Giant Staircase. The Echo Point Information Centre is also located here which is your best starting point for maps etc.
NOTE: Some street parking is available on Echo Point Road and on Cliff Drive but it is time limited so its not much use if you’re planning on doing a walk as well. If you park a little further away, you’ll find streets where you can park for free and are not time-restricted. Bus run from Katoomba’s town centre to Echo Point.
