The culture of “film pilgrimage”—
visiting the real-life settings of
films—began here on Shodoshima
with the 1954 film Twenty-Four
Eyes. Depicting the bond between
a teacher and her pupils through
times of war, it became a symbol of
peace for postwar Japan.Linked with
the image of “Olive Island,” the film
drew travelers nationwide. Today,
the Twenty-Four Eyes Movie Studio
preserves this legacy, welcoming
visitors who come to relive the
moving story.Twenty-Four Eyes (1952) by Sakae Tsuboi

resilience. The 1954 film adaptation
