点评:We are big national park fans, so when spending a week in Palm Springs this was a must visit. I am a senior so I have a free national park pass, so that made it even better!
From Palm Springs, we chose to enter the southern entrance at Cottonwood. The visitor center there is small, but it was a great opportunity for a bathroom stop and to pick up a park map. We then took off in the direction of the Cholla cactus Gardens. Like any national park, there are many, many opportunities to pull to the side of the road and get out and take a look. Several times we got out and did a short hike around to check out the vegetation.
The cactus gardens were amazing, and definitely take the short hike through them to really appreciate the area.
We had packed a lunch, so we just picked a scenic spot to pull over and pop the hatch on the car to sit and have a picnic. As the day progressed the volume of visitors increased, so at some of the popular stops, such as skull rock, it was nearly impossible to find parking so we chose not to stop.
As we were approaching the north west exit of the park, you really see the volume of Joshua trees pick up. We chose to get out several times in that area to take pictures of the unique formations. There is so much to see here, and it all depends on how much time you want to spend in the park, and how much hiking you want to do. Even in November, it was well worth your time to bring bottles of water to keep hydrated. We are so glad we visited!
