点评:We planned to visit the famed spot in our Sendai trip. It was the mausoleum of Date Masamune, the more powerful feudal lords of the Edo Period.
Quite a crowd when we reached about 9:30am on a Sunday. The premise is large and there are much steps to hike up.
Upon entering massive cedar trees surround the paths in the area and are meant to symbolize the long history of the Date clan. The trees are over 300+ years old and stone staircase lead the way up to reach the main sanctuary, easily more than over 100 steps.
We entered through the Nirvana Gate. His son and grandson, Date Tadamune and Date Tsunamune, are entombed in nearby smaller similar-style mausoleums, while other descendants are laid to rest in less elaborate graves and tombs. The Kansenden is Date Tadamune grave was actually rebuild, all captured in the video. It features intricate woodwork and a rich variety of vivid colours. A museum beside the Zuihoden main building shows some of the personal artifacts of the Date family and even some specimens of their bones and hair.
Masamune was the first in a long line of Date lords to rule over Sendai from Aoba Castle.. Zuihoden was designed in the ornate style of the Momoyama Period.
They are even sharing of samples of burial goods uncovered, marvelous!
We came from Sendai Station by the Loople Sendai bus. Recommended!.
