点评:I spent almost the whole day here (a day trip from Fukuyama), and it was an enjoyable day. Sensui Island took about half a day, and the other half a day was spent in Tomo No Ura itself.
The tourist office at the Fukuyama station sells a combination ticket which includes bus transportation to and from Tomo No Ura, and entrance to several of the museums and temples at Tomo No Ura. I felt it was good value, and it certainly simplified the bus transportation portion of the trip. The bus trip to Tomo No Rua was about a 30 minute ride.
The small fishing port area of Tono No Ura is quite picturesque, and there is an area covering a few blocks with preserved traditional architecture. I visited the Oda family residence (good), and also the Ryoma Sakamoto museum (also good). There was adequate English-language information available at both. If you are feeling energetic, it is worthwhile to walk to the seaside Yodohime Shrine for nice views of the ocean and the town from across the harbour. If you are still feeling energetic, it is worthwhile to do the climb up to the Io-ji Temple. If you are feeling extremely energetic, there is yet another temple up the hill beyond Io-ji (not recommended, however if it's wet, as the trail can become very slippery, and it is quite steep).
There was no time to visit the large Fukuzenji temple which dominates the downtown area. Next time, perhaps.
For me, actually, the highlight of the trip was the ferry ride to Sensui Island, and then hiking on Sensui island, but the town of Tomo No Ura itself was a very enjoyable destination.
Don't expect much English here; you are truly in normal Japan, not 'tourist' Japan (or, at least, not 'foreign tourist' Japan - there were quite a few Japanese tourists).
