点评:This is a beautiful park with plenty to explore. I passed by the park to visit the Hokkaido Shrine but the highlight was definitely the path there and not the destination. Most of the cherry blossoms have already recently blossomed and fallen when I visited, so there were a lot of petals still fluttering in the air but also fallen on the ground as well.
There were a lot of people out having picnics, and on the way to the Hokkaido Shrine, there was an abundance of food and snack stalls to choose from. The takoyakis were extremely hot and fresh.
Somehow, whenever I intend to visit any shrine in Japan, I always end up finding a hiking trail by accident. This time it was Mount Maruyama. The trail begins near the Maruyama Zoo and it is a moderate hike. It takes about an hour to get to the top if you're walking casually. There, you get a nice view of Sapporo City.
Depending on which route you choose, there are also numerous smaller shrines along the path between the bottom and top of the mountain. I did not see any shrines on my way up. However, on my way down, I chose a different path, and there were numerous shrines along the way. I even thought of taking a photo of everyone one of them, and had started to, but there were just so many of them that I gave up the idea.
The hike is a nice and easy escape to nature while being very easily accessible from the city.
