A beautiful estate from a family that has left their mark for generations to come!
Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library的点评
点评:We came to Delaware just to visit Winterthur! Late October on a partly sunny weekday. We started with the Tram Tour of the estate grounds, giving us the lay of the land and some background on how this estate came to be, knowing that it was working dairy farm, that Mr Dupont went to school for horticulture, and that he applied his knowledge to the house and the land, while employing many people for decades. Our tour (for just the two of us) was really nice, with the tour guide (Anna) providing details, answering questions, and allowing us to linger occasionally. After a quick bite in the Cafe, we took the Garden Tram to the house. Our very enthusiastic tour guide pointed out so much, like the oldest trees, the unusual plantings, the philosophy of plantings to enjoy the blooming color from spring through fall...and fortunately there were still some flowering trees in bloom to enjoy! We went through the House on a self-guided tour, taking our time to see what spoke to us, enjoying something in every room. Understated elegance might be the best description I can share. Mr Dupont was a collector of American decorative arts, and that we were reaping the benefits of his endeavors!
