点评:There is not enough time nor space to make a list of all the reasons why people should avoid Landmark. Alas, I live right next to this horrid establishment so I have no choice. I can go to SM, of course, but when it doesn't have the goods that I am looking for, I bite my tongue, summon all the positive energy in the world to help me and go to this abysmal place, Landmark.
The building itself is old, dirty, in need of refurbishing and most especially, cleaning. There is a certain smell that comes from certain corners of the building - the grocery section and the basement smell the worst! These places are where we eat and buy food, of course. Personally, I have nothing against aging buildings as long as they are safe and pass the building codes that are in place. However, when rats, cockroaches and other bugs greet the customers in broad daylight, it can be unhealthy and dangerous.
Nevertheless, at least the cockroaches and other vermin in the building will greet you. The supposed managers, supervisors, security guards and sales staff will not entertain customers, unless they are their relatives, friends or foreigners (preferably pale-skinned). Do not make the mistake of thinking that Landmark employees are there for the customers. They are there for their own enjoyment and pleasure. The amount of energy expended by everyone on chatting, gazing blankly at the world beyond, gossiping and avoiding any semblance of work is unbelievable! If this energy could be harnessed, we would be able to power the entire country for years to come.
There is absolutely no sense of work ethic imbued in any of the employees here. Everyday is like a party - and the customers are party poopers who spoil the fun.
Truly sorry for some - 1% of the staff - who have tried their best to accommodate customers including myself. I thank you for the numerous times you've been polite and helpful. I hope the world protects you and that you do not bow to the pressure of fitting in with colleagues who, for some reason, believe that their main task in Landmark is to make life difficult for customers. Or worse, I hope that none of you is unfortunate enough to overhear the terrible things they say about the customers! They make fun of their clothes, their accent (what is the obsession with accents), and the list goes on and on.
Now for the grocery section. It is to be avoided at all costs! If you do have to buy supplies, check everything that you buy. If the packaging is paper, check that there are no bite marks. I have witnessed on numerous occasions products which had to be exchanged because there were bite marks - from cute creatures such as rats or ants. The employees themselves who litter the aisles can be overheard making jokes about having chased away these critters in the grocery section. Lovely!
Some of the cashiers and baggers are actually very polite. But they are far outnumbered by colleagues who are rude, disrespectful, loud, obnoxious and thoroughly unsuitable for work that requires a bit of knowledge about the service industry. Chatting seems to be a universal hobby. Cashiers will bang your groceries thoughtlessly and baggers try to disappear into the background when work needs to be done. Unless, again, if you are their friend, family, a celebrity, and, never forget, a foreigner (preferable pale-skinned).
The Philippines is now exporting butchers to numerous countries in the world so the meat section now has an overflowing number of employees. Guess what, they are there to kill time and get enough years under their belt so they can apply for work abroad. Assisting customers is a skill which they have not ever considered.
Apologies but I have to prepare for work now. There are so many other things about Landmark that should be avoided. Perhaps other customers who have had the misfortune of dealing with any of the the people working there can contribute more. Once again, I would like to reiterate that there are a few employees who have been very polite and helpful.
Do not worry, though, because this level of customer service will become the standard. As the Philippines continues to export many of its workers to other countries in the world, this kind of work ethic will define what is considered as THE desirable customer experience in the future.
Apologies for the long review and for those who made it this far, thank you for taking the time to read it. I look forward to the time when Landmark employees treat everyone with respect. Your customers, the ones who purchase items from the store, treat you with respect - most of us do, anyway. We have been very patient, respectful and reasonable because we know what it's like to work very hard and still come up short sometimes.
So please, please, Landmark, treat your customers better.
