点评:A stunning setting contributes to a totally mesmerising and for me, a life-changing experience.
The NMA should be a sad space & in parts, it most definitely is. But it also speaks of human resilience & the power of the human mind, (which sometimes, but not always), has overcome enormous adversity.
Everywhere, within the sizeable site, respect & dignity sit comfortably side by side with loss, grief & regret.
The blocks of 100s of planted trees & the messages which accompany them are stunning in their simplicity & eloquently speak to the many lives lost to war, to torture, to road accidents, to infant death …
and yet, despite the immediate & very regular reminders of destruction of human life, often on an almost unbelievably grand scale, the chaos of lives torn apart & of those lives forever changed by the untimely loss of so many loved ones, The National Arboretum is also a place of peace, calm & quiet, respectful contemplation.
I, personally, will never forget.
