Take a whole day here! Beautiful place. Book fast on AM of visit day to tour the home
Sagamore Hill National Historic Site的点评
点评:First of all, if you want to get a National Park Service Ranger-led tour of the house Theodore Roosevelt lived in, get online the AM of your visit and register for a tour as soon as it opens up…I believe it’s 9:30am, but check the NPS website. (Spots fill up quickly!). I managed to grab a spot, and was so glad. Sagamore Hill is BEAUTIFUL.. even just the grounds around the house and museum. Trails to explore, and just so quiet and peaceful. I wish I had more time here…maybe I can come back someday. The Ranger who led our tour was a fun young man and provided us with an unbelievable amount of history and fun facts about the family. He was WONDERFUL and engaging. He talked fast sometimes because T.R. is SO interesting..as well as the family....there’s just so much to learn. (I took notes so I’d remember what he said!). Most of the furniture is ORIGINAL, so we had to be careful not to touch things. Make sure you make time for OLD ORCHARD MUSEUM, which is PACKED with interesting information on Theodore Roosevelt. (I had to take a lot of pictures of the exhibits so I could read the info later…wish I had more time!). Nice little gift shop as well with interesting books, trinkets…all things TED. This was a PERFECT outing during my trip to NYC…I think it’s nice to get OUT of Manhattan for a day and enjoy the beauty on Long Island. I LOVED Oyster Bay…and Sagamore Hill! I took the Long Island Railroad from Grand Central Terminal, and then took an Uber out to Sagamore Hill. Very relaxing train ride. Thank you to our Ranger for a wonderful tour, and for answering all of our questions. On the way back to the train station, I set up a stop with my Uber ride for the Theodore Roosevelt gravesite in Youngs Memorial Cemetery closer to the town of Oyster Bay. I came away wanting to study T.R. and the family much more when back at home.
