点评：Ramanathaswamy Temple is the main attraction of Rameswaram and the primary reason why most pilgrims visit this holy place. There are two types of darshan available here. Early in the morning, between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM, a small Spatik Shivlingam is placed in front of the main lingam while the main lingam remains covered. This special darshan attracts a huge crowd.
After this, devotees traditionally take a holy bath in the 22 kundas (sacred wells), change their wet clothes, and then proceed again for darshan of the main lingam. At other times of the day, the crowd is comparatively manageable, and you can directly have darshan of the main deity.
Although the officially approved charge for bathing in the kundas is around ₹25, many visitors end up paying the priests or attendants present there to ensure a proper bathing experience. Otherwise, the attendants pouring water may not provide sufficient water from the wells. It is advisable to carry a wide-mouthed container or jar to collect water from all the kundas while they pour water on you and bring some holy water back home.
Men are allowed to wear shorts during the bathing ritual, and carrying your clothes in a waterproof bag or backpack is manageable because water is poured mainly on the head. Alternatively, you can keep your fresh clothes in the locker room before beginning the ritual.
Mobile phones are allowed inside the temple premises, and visitors can take photographs of the beautiful corridors and pillars. However, photography is strictly prohibited inside the sanctum sanctorum.
