点评:This was truly the highlight of our trip to Henan. Yuntaishan Geopark is a wonderland of breathtaking scenery — a paradise of waterfalls and emerald pools crowned by summits with panoramic views. We chose to stay inside the park at the Anshang Service Centre, which proved to be the perfect decision. Admission is free for seniors aged 60 and above, and we only paid RMB 60 each for shuttle transportation. Both admission and shuttle passes are valid for three consecutive days, making exploration seamless.
The geopark is divided into eight major scenic areas:
Hongshi Gorge (红石峡)
Tanpu Gorge (潭瀑峡)
Quanpu Gorge (泉瀑峡)
Macaque Valley (猕猴谷)
Zhuyu Peak (茱萸峰)
Diecai Cave (叠彩洞)
Wanshan Temple (万善寺)
Zifang Lake (子房湖)
Together, they showcase geological diversity, hydrological beauty, wildlife, cultural heritage, and tranquil landscapes. We explored all of them in just three days.
🏨 Stay at Anshang Service Centre
Choosing a hotel at Anshang Service Centre was ideal. The shuttle bus stop was right outside our hotel, and within a five‑minute walk we reached the town centre, lined with convenience stores, shops, and restaurants.
🌄 Day 1 — Red Stone Gorge & Tanpu Gorge
Arriving at noon, we began with Red Stone Gorge (红石峡), the crown jewel of Yuntaishan, often called “China’s No. 1 Wonderful Gorge.” Carved into red quartz sandstone formed over 2.6 million years, its cliffs glow crimson under sunlight, contrasting dramatically with emerald pools and waterfalls. The 2 km trail features signature landmarks such as Bailong Waterfall (白龙瀑布), One Line Sky (一线天), and Heilong Pool (黑龙潭).
At the end of the trail, we visited the calm and tranquil Zifang Lake (子房湖) before boarding another shuttle to Tanpu Gorge (潭瀑峡). Known as the “water paradise” of Yuntaishan, Tanpu Gorge is famous for its continuous springs, waterfalls, and pools. Locals say: “Three steps one spring, five steps one waterfall, ten steps one pool.” Afterward, we returned to our hotel and enjoyed dinner at the town centre.
🌊 Day 2 — Lemon Town, Quanpu Gorge & Wanshan Temple
The next morning, we revisited Red Stone Gorge. The sunrise cast a crimson glow on the cliffs, beautifully reflected in the emerald waters. By 9 am, we reached Lemon Town (柠檬小镇) — a newly built themed village with bright lemon‑yellow aesthetics and mountain scenery, offering a refreshing “healing” vibe.
After a tea break, we continued to Quanpu Gorge (泉瀑峡), the “waterfall corridor” showcasing a continuous chain of springs and cascades. Locals describe it as “步步有泉,处处有瀑” — “every step has a spring, everywhere a waterfall.” It was quieter than Red Stone Gorge or Tanpu Gorge, perfect for a peaceful walk.
We then took another shuttle to Wanshan Temple (万善寺), the spiritual heart of Yuntaishan, blending Daoist and Buddhist traditions with centuries of heritage. That concluded our second day.
🏔 Day 3 — Zhuyu Peak & Summit Temples
On the final day, we tackled Zhuyu Peak (茱萸峰), the highest summit of Yuntaishan and a cultural landmark immortalized in Tang poetry. Instead of the cable car, we took the shuttle bus up winding roads past Diecai Cave (叠彩洞), then began the arduous climb.
Along the route, we visited Sun Miao (孙庙) and the Guan Kong Temple (关公庙), dedicated to Guan Yu, the legendary general symbolizing loyalty and righteousness. At the very summit stands the Zhuyu Peak Temple (茱萸峰庙), dedicated to mountain worship. We chose to walk down rather than take the cable car, savoring the sense of achievement and satisfaction from reaching the peak. I also visited the Macaque Valley but could not find a single monkey here.
Overall, both my wife and I truly enjoyed this immersive journey through Yuntaishan’s stunning fairy‑tale landscape. From crimson gorges to cascading waterfalls, tranquil lakes, and sacred temples, every moment was unforgettable. If given the chance, I would gladly return to this magical place again.
