Legendary distillery that is well worth a visit
Nikka威士忌余市蒸馏所的点评
点评：This historical - if not legendary - distillery sits a short hop from Yoichi Station and offers a much more complete experience than one might initially expect. Apart from the guided tour, which requires a prior reservation, there is a large museum, a tasting room offering some truly exclusive varieties of Nikka whisky, a shop and a restaurant on-site. Setting it apart from many other distilleries I've visited, you can easily spend hours here while learning and tasting your way through Nikka's rich history.
While the guided tour includes a tasting, if you've already tried some of the generally available Nikka whiskies then you might find it a bit underwhelming; the tasting room is where the good stuff is, though this can quickly get very expensive, so keep that in mind. Also, if you intend to get your hands on the museum-exclusive bottles, you might want to visit early in the day.
Also note that getting to Yoichi from Sapporo is somewhat complicated as the train from Otaru to Yoichi is relatively old, slow, runs infrequently (by Japanese standards) and requires a separate ticket that can't be bought with an IC card like most other train tickets in Japan.
