点评:Wow! What a wonderful experience doing the 4D/3N jungle trek in Gunung Leuser Park near Bukit Lawang, Sumatra organized through Local Guides. Our jungle guides Edie and Dana were knowledgeable, entertaining, and extremely patient. They continually adapted to our needs and did everything possible to make our trip the best experience. Of course the stars of the show were the orangutans which we were lucky enough to see 5 on the first day. Even though we didn’t see any the other days we saw lots of other animals. Edie/Dana spotted numerous monkeys/apes, bug, plants, birds, and lizard, etc. The camps are VERY basic which we expected - thin mattresses, mosquito nets, mandi flush toilets, sitting on stone and logs. No showers but a swim in the river did the job. The tubbing back to town on the last was really fun! Also the food was great thanks to our cook Amery. His food was delicious, varied, and plentiful. He very attentive and kept filling us with tea, biscuits, fruit, and meals - thank you! A few things you should know 1. We are a 65+ couple that are fairly active but not necessarily in great shape … although they adapted the trail where they could, it was a very difficult trek carrying all you belongings from camp to camp in very warm humid weather. There are a lot of very steep verticals up and basically rappelling down. We were able to do it but it was a challenge. Definitely worth it but you might want to do some physical prep before you go. Also we booked the package that included private transportation to/from Medan and a night in Bukit Lawang before and after the trek. The transportation was great but based on some email exchanges we had had with Local Guides we had expected to stay at the Ecolodge or at least one of the hotels featured on their site, that was not the case which was disappointing. I would recommend you book your own hotel that way you know for sure what you are getting.
