Wonderful hiking and boating trip in E Greenland

点评：Nicco and his company Nunatak are great and highly recommended! He is a wonderful person to spend time with – calm, friendly, sense of humor, great Italian cook. Also a skilled alpine guide, knows the area well, well informed about glaciology, and has made great efforts to learn about and integrate into Greenlandic culture and community – all of which made him perfect to organize our trip and be our guide. Communication prior to trip and trip planning went very smoothly.
We did a 10-day trip in late August 2025. First a few days hiking, seeing the ice cave, a bit of ice climbing on Apusiaajik island across from Kulusuk. The scenery awed us – peak after peak, glacier after glacier, the surreal space of the ice cave, the ultramarine waters of the fjord. One night at the floating Aurora hut – a cozy and luxurious place with views of stars, water and peaks. Cooked up a great meal of lox and fresh halibut. Another at his friend’s cabin, rustic and comfortable. The weather, always unpredictable, changed and we had to beat it back to Kulusuk. Nicco is creative, adaptable and connected to folks in the area, so he came up with a great alternate plan and we headed out to his special spot which he calls Little Patagonia (although having been there, would say East Greenland swallows up Patagonia in scale and wildness). Camped on a bench over the fjord with great day hikes nearby with views of a dramatic glacial basin close by and fjords and ice sheet in the distance. And even fresh pasta made on the spot with mussels we harvested. Weather again took a turn for worse, but he talked to a friend and we stayed at a comfortable house in Tinit and had great boat trips in the fjord seeing whales and ice bergs.
