点评:I am a veterinary student and went to RAREC in June of 2026 for two weeks. I really enjoyed the people and atmosphere but was disappointed at the care they provided for the domestic animals living on the property. Two older dogs, blackie and negra both had masses, one of which was in the mouth and impacted eating. None of the dogs were vaccinated and in September of this year I was incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of all dogs at RAREC due to distemper. This is an extremely preventable disease and also one that could endanger other carnivores at the rescue which makes it extremely disheartening that the facility owners did not provide the appropriate preventative care to their animals. As veterinary students we had very little hands on work and would have been grateful to have been able to vaccinate and care for these animals. The domestic campaigns also consisted solely of applying expired flea and tick preventions to dogs, which felt like we were doing very little to help. This was an expensive program and I feel some amount of that money should have went towards buying appropriate supplies such as vaccines that would save dogs lives and protect people. This is a great place for wildlife, but if you care deeply for our domestic animals, this isn’t the place for you. They were really good dogs, and I wish we could have done more.
