Longfellow House Washington's Headquarters的点评
点评：Having watched Ken Burns’s series on the American Revolution, I was amazed to learn that the war was centered here in Boston for nearly a year following the battles of Lexington and Concord—with George Washington headquartered right here on Brattle Street, in a house I’ve walked past many times but never paid much attention to.
We first visited in May to see the lilacs, before the house opened for the season. The lilacs and gardens were spectacular, though we couldn’t go inside.
We returned last week for the “250th Deep Dive: Headquarters of a Revolution” tour, thinking it would focus mostly on the American Revolution. Our guide focused more on the house itself and Longfellow’s legacy, but he was informative and engaging and happy to answer our questions about the war. This was definitely a five-star experience, and I highly recommend it.
Visiting can be a little tricky because the house isn’t open year-round, and you can only go inside as part of a scheduled tour. But with a little planning, it is well worth the effort—and you can’t beat the price: it’s free!
