It’s thought that they were built sometime around the 4th century BC, which pre-dates the ancient Romans. It's a pretty amazing thing to think that when these were built, Alexander the Great was just becoming a force and Socrates was being executed in Athens.
However there’s not a lot left and it takes a whole lot of imagination to picture what they might have looked like. It was all a bit beyond me and I think this is something that only a real history buff will appreciate.
You can see sections of wall from inside Fiesole’s Archaeological Area (it runs behind the Roman baths and Etruscan temple) but you can see a much larger section from outside, where it runs along Via delle Mura Etrusche. Another large part can also be seen along Via Mari. However the easiest place to see it is inside the Civic Archaeological Museum where you can see a section in Room 6.
