点评:This is an exceptional museum and a rare, fascinating collection that captures a piece of Phuket’s history through the story of a local business family. It explores the island’s transition from a mining community into one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations.
The museum is divided into three main areas: hotel history, tin mining, and the broader history of the region. The hotel section looks at Thai culture adapting to a modern world, and how the area and local businesses evolved following the decline of mining. The mining section provides a fascinating insight into the history and technology of Phuket’s tin mines, while the regional history area contains a range of interesting artefacts from Phuket and the surrounding region.
What makes this museum particularly interesting is how it captures the rapid development of Phuket through the lens of local entrepreneurship and the people who helped shape the island.
The museum is located within a coffee shop in the old hotel, and the café itself is worth stopping at. Best Thai tea I’ve had in Phuket!
Highly recommend a visit if you want to understand a different side of Phuket beyond the beaches and tourist attractions.
Definitely worth a pop in, expect 30mins -1hr to see everything
Entry fee was 200B, budget for a coffee before as well to enjoy the atmosphere
