Long walk But so worth it. The first 2 miles is easy. Then 1.2m walking over spikey black volcanic rock, so wear sturdy shoes, it will take a good 45 minutes to do this bit.
You need a decent level of fitness and balance though to negotiate the rocks. The time it suggests on the later signposts, suggesting 12 then 8 minutes are miles off.
The route is clearly signposted though and goes past another couple of beaches if you decide you dont want to walk the rest of the way. If you do get there it's well worth it.
Pethaps because it's a toughish walk it is amazing when you get there. Beautiful almost deserted beach, black iguanas, hermit crabs, sealion pups playing in the sea and lots of sea turtles just a couple of minutes from the beach, so bring a snorkel.
On the way I saw herons, giant centipedes, golden finches and multiple lava lizards 🦎
On the way back is mostly uphill, so tough work if it's a hot day and very humid going through the woods, or slippery if it's been rainy. That said, I loved it there so much, I did it twice in 5 days.
